Totally exceeded my expectation.

Price per feature, this is one of the best phone around right now.
Things I really like
- Latest android OS at 4.2.1 (well, technically not THE latest, 4.2.2 is the latest). This is a surprise as the description says OS is 4.1.2
- Screen size is just what I need. Could be big for some, ordering this phone I am skeptical about the size being too big (given that I find the gnote 2 too bordering between big and just right) but when I actually held it it actually felt good. They managed to control the exterior size while having that big screen.
- Fast quad core cpu (mtk 6589). Its not as fast as gnote 2...but it's very close (real world test, no formal benchmarks). also, I think if this phone will have 2GB ram just like gnote 2 then the difference in speed will really be very close.
- 1 GB Ram
- Comes with (2) 3200 Mah batteries. Could be just the label being 3200 MAh but after 1 day of heavy usage, I'd like to believe it is for real.
- Front camera is usable for video chat (couldn't say the same for a lot of branded phones)
- Can handle 2 sim cards, both unlocked (can handle any gsm carrier, I am using at&t locally and an international roaming sim)
- Gorgeous HD screen. 1280 x 720 is for real (I was skeptical if this is for real, but it is). I don't think it's gorilla glass but thats alright for the price.... and oh, it comes with screen protector already installed.
- Free flip type cover (its not the prettiest but hey... it's free :-))
- Given all those features above.. it only sells for less than $250
What's not so great
- Only 4gb of internal memory, but expandable via sd card so it's fine
- Build quality is great although body is all plastic BUT tends to gets slippery when my hands starts sweating.
- The usb ac charger that came with the phone is not good quality. Using the included usb charger, the phone will be unusable while being charged. When I used a charger from another phone the problem went away.. so yeah it is the charger.
- The camera is 12mp on paper. It seems correct but the quality of the picture taken is not great just decent, usable for quick shots. On good lighting it worked better.
I would've given it 4 stars because of the charger issue but then this phone just works so great and is a joy to use (again, given the low price) that giving it less than 5 stars would not be right. I think, I just got unlucky with the charger and I am too lazy to ask for a return.. and this phone is a keeper.
I've had Iphone, galaxy sII, lg optimus 4x hd before this and I could say, given that this phone is from an unknown brand I never felt loosing any "coolness" by opting to have this phone than branded ones. Why do I thought of having this phone.. in my case I really need a dual-sim phone (hassle to bring 2 phones)... I got that and more.. much more.

Fantastic

Just got the S7589 in after returning the Padfone 6" and let me tell you it blows the Padfone away. Verified all the components with AnTuTu app. This thing runs smooth! Much better display, better viewing angles, better overall display quality. Full access to Google Play store so far, connected to my Asus Wifi router flawlessly. Installed Angry Birds and several other apps with no problems. Great game platform. I've been looking for an unlocked, contract free alternative to the Galaxy Note II, and this looks great so far, and at 1/3rd the price. Planning on getting a T-Mobile SIM, will let you know how that goes. Main weakness of this phone will be its radio....(knew that going in) 2G/3G only. (Did read in one place it has HSDPA+ hardware that can be activated with a software update...will see). I do most of my serious use of a smartphone on Wifi anyway, outside of Calls & Texts, which 2G/3G will do fine. I am a serious geek with a value shopper streak and I LOVE this phone so far.

Impressive specs marred by build quality issues

The package when opened is impressive. You get the phone, two batteries, a charger, a case, and another back for the phone which has a flip cover. Until now, every phone I bought, I had to get a case and screen protector separately, so this was good. Screen protector was well installed too. I paid $238 for the phone.
So, now to make it work. Don't expect much from the documentation, it is after all a chinese product. Not an LG, Samsung or HTC. You have to figure out where the power button is, power button is on the side. Once you turn it on, it worked fine initially. Screen is large, uncluttered and has pretty wallpaper. It is a nice screen, although after looking at other screens it is a bit washed out. The resolution is nice.
I put in my Tmobile SIm card, and it started working right away. But the call quality was very distorted on speakers, and after searching for reason i found it. The speaker inside is loose. Cheap build quality. Now for a product that costs almost 250 bucks on Amazon prime, I expect better quality.
Further, the built in browser is yahoo, not chrome, on an android! When you tap google on their built in browser, it points to google china, not google.com, Don't even bother trying to remove these chinese sites. They are built in and not easy to remove. You have to install google chrome or dolphin to get a decent browser. After you do that, the quad core was excellent for browsing. You rarely wait to update any page. Updates are fast, screens are very readable, and is comparable to my nexus 7. Browsing is excellent.
The apps area is very frustrating. Google play store did not work the first two times. I finally got it to work, but it did not work right out of the box like other phones. Then, when you try to update google search, or google +, or gmail, it will not update, but give you a message that the app is in the wrong location. Still not working after multiple tries. I tried to download vonage extensions to make international calls. App simply does not work on this phone, period, no matter how hard you try. Camera took sharp pictures, but everything went to google+. In fairness, I don't know if this is how google does this now, or if it is the phone. But on my old phone, I had a private directory, and could choose to upload when I wanted to. There is no option for that here. Front camera did not recognize my face multiple times for screen unlock. Apps are very quirky, some apps work right away, others no way.
I am going to contact the seller to see if these flaws can be worked out. If so, I will keep it. Otherwise, spending almost 250 for a buggy product that does not do what you expect might be too much. I will return if the seller does not follow through.
Would I buy this again knowing what I know now? Probably not, too much hassle, call quality is poor, things don't work well, I could not side load apps, front camera is barely usable. But the speed of browsing, and multi tasking is great. If you are looking for a phone that could double as a tablet, and don't care much about the call quality this would do.
